Assessment
Is your life being disrupted by low mood, prolonged stress, emotional problems or fears? If so your GP, health visitor, midwife, practice nurse or practice counsellor may suggest you see a mental health worker in your surgery.
What will the mental health worker do?
He/she will see you for a 30-40 minute appointment to:
- Help you understand the nature of your problems
- Discuss ways of dealing with them
- Consider how to get appropriate help
- Agree on a course of action
This could mean seeing the mental health worker for a limited number of appointments for specific help, or referral to another professional or service, or to be provided with information about self-help.
How will you benefit from this service?
- Quick access to appropriate help
- Opportunity to discuss your needs and choices
- Seeing somebody in a familiar setting close to where you live
- Access to information about available services
- Understanding of what will happen next
The new NHS Dorset came into being on 1 October 2006. The Trust was formed by the merger of North Dorset Primary Care Trust, South West Dorset Primary Care Trust and South and East Dorset Primary Care Trust.
If you need to contact services provided by one of the former primary care trusts, please use the existing telephone numbers in the relevant leaflets.
